Now This Move Isn’t Easy!

by pilates32 on October 29, 2011

Progression is important in Pilates. Matter of fact, progression is important in any area of fitness or training we do. If we don’t progress, then we don’t continue to change, adapt and grow into the better versions of ourselves that we eventually want to be. With progression in mind, this videoblog considers an advanced move that is effective not only in developing core stability, but also lateral alignment and upper body, shoulder and back strength.

The side plank can be progressed up from a simple knee version found in previous series of Pilates 32 tutorials. Movements and rotations can also be added in to advance it further from a isometric, static exercise. I have given one progression in this short clip, giving you the time to progress from holding on the forearm to eventually performing it from the hand; the full move.

Be sure to breathe naturally throughout the move and ensure correct set-up, warm up and preparation before beginning. Don’t feel that you have to hold the exercise too long. Working for a shorter time and performing it right, can be much more beneficial both short and long term.

Less of the talk: Enjoy!
